Development Process
The Crossiety app was developed as a progressive web app (PWA), designed to provide users with a seamless, app-like experience on both mobile and desktop platforms. Unlike native apps that are downloaded from app stores, Crossiety users can access it directly from a mobile browser and save it to their home screen, allowing it to function like a traditional app without needing to go through an installation process. This approach simplifies access and updates, as changes on the server side are immediately reflected without requiring users to update manually.
The Crossiety mobile app was developed using a hybrid approach. The core of the app is a progressive web app (PWA), allowing users to access it directly from a browser on any device and experience it as an app. To enhance functionality, the Turbo Native library was used to wrap the PWA, creating a native-like mobile experience that includes platform-specific features such as push notifications, alerts, and badges. This setup allows Crossiety to retain the advantages of a PWA—such as easy updates and cross-platform compatibility—while also integrating native elements that improve usability and engagement for mobile users.
